Please keep to the following simple guidelines:

1. Don't swear

2. Don't insult people

3. Don't issue threats

4. Don't incite crime

5. Don't libel anyone

6. "Trolling" is strongly discouraged. (Trolling is defined as making a post with the intention of provoking conflict, or making a post founded on false opinions intended to provoke pointless discussion, including circular threads.) Posters who "troll" consistently will be placed on "Troll Alert" status. If they continue to troll consistently they will be banned.

7. Do remember that the public can read these forums, including children, the press and the police.

8. No flame war. If you are concerned about a post by someone else breaching these rules, contact the moderator - don't get drawn into a flame war.

9. Messages that contravene any of these rules may be edited or deleted by a moderator.

10. Posters who ignore the rules, may have privileges or forum membership withdrawn.
11. Ad hominem attacks are not allowed. (Ad hominem - Oxford English Dictionary : Of an argument etc.: directed to the individual, personal; appealing to feeling not reason.)
This means that we expect users to attack the argument rather than the poster. Violating this rule will result in a single warning. A repeated violation will result in forum rights being withdrawn, or an immediate ban.

12. No individual user is permitted to have more than one account.

13. No Vitriol.

Advice for Posters:

If a disagreement seemed to be getting heated, please remember that it's easy to misunderstand text based communications. Perhaps take ten minutes before you reply?
Remember that our forums are used worldwide. When you respond to a post, take into account legislation, cultural differences and language (for example, English may not be the first language of other subscribers participating in the forum). Humour, sarcasm and irony often don’t translate well across cultural boundaries and might cause offense.
The RtV Forums strive to be an informative and interesting place for lively discussion. If you see a post that offends you personally, it doesn't mean that the post itself has necessarily violated any guidelines or that the offense was intended.

Don't be afraid of topic drift - topic drift is a natural part of the process of forum discussions. However, do try to be aware if the post you are making might be better as a new topic.

When posting a new topic, please try to post it in the best possible forum. This isn't always easy to decide, and we can move posts easily if it ends up in the wrong forum. We'd rather you posted in the wrong forum than you didn't post at all. Give your topic a sensible meaningful title that lets others know what the post is about.

We will never delete posts or disbar posters because we disagree with their opinions, and as long as they uphold the above rules. All opinions are welcome if they are honestly held.

Commercial advertising and promotional posts are NOT permitted, but forum members should feel free to tell us about "on topic" relevant websites, products or services. One post will be sufficient - duplicate or similar posts in multiple forums are not allowed. Obvious commercial promotion will be regarded as spamming.

Reviews - we strongly encourage forum members to post regarding their own experiences of products or services they have direct experience of.  Product reviews should be of items purchased by the reviewer and should be objective and not include negative comments regarding rival products.  Suppliers and their agents may not post reviews.  "Knocking copy" - reviews which have been posted purely to disparage the item or service will be deleted.

(NB The Iolite/I-Inhale thread is open, but will need to be brought into harmony with future rules.)
